Brief History

The seeds were planted in our hearts in 2001 on the need to monitor, document and disseminate sectarian violence from a truth telling perspective. In 2003, the motivation extended to mentoring young people for value-based leadership. In 2008, we began to sense the need to build the capacity of women to become transformational change agents. These evolved over time culminating in the birth of The Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation. The Citizens Monitoring Group (CMG) was the first to come on stream with the publication of “Plateau Under Attack” documenting eye-witness accounts of the January 2010 crises. Transformational mentoring through value-based leadership development (TLDMI) thrust is the second stream which commences in 2020, and African Women Arise Rebuild & Excel (AWARE) is the third stream of the Foundation.
