Together for Good: Building Bridges in Taraba State

We are excited to announce Project Zammanlafiya Taraba, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence across Wukari, Ussa, and Takum Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Taraba State, Nigeria.

Taraba has long faced complex, multifaceted and nuanced conflictual challenges, with violent clashes rooted in inter-religious, inter-ethnic tensions, and socio-political combustions. These conflicts disrupt livelihoods, exacerbate hunger, and create a volatile environment that threatens the social fabric of communities. They also inhibit development and undermine environmental sustainability.

In alignment with global efforts to address insecurity and promote Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB), this project seeks to create mutual understanding and collaboration between ethnic and religious groups. Through innovative activities under the tag: Project Zamanlafiya Taraba, The Para-Mallam Peace Foundation in partnership with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), and intervention has been initiated.

This focuses on community engagement peace dialogue as a unique approach in growing home grown solutions for sustainable peace. Advocacy visits, media peace campaigns, and youth and women engagement, we aim to transform the cycle of violence in Taraba into a narrative of hope and social harmony.

Key initiatives
include:

  • Dialogue Sessions
to bring diverse community leaders, women, men, and youth together for mutual
understanding in the search for home-grown solutions.

  • Youth Sports
Engagement to foster unity among young people through Football for Peace
    Initiative.

In Early January 2025, we intend to take on the following activities:

  • Training in Trauma
Counseling to facilitate reconciliation and support affected individuals.
  • Early Warning,
Response and Early Presence training, to empower communities in order to prevent future conflicts.

Together, we envision a future of interfaith and inter-ethnic harmony, where sustainable peace and development seeks to transform the conflicts in Taraba. This initiative is a vital step towards stability and development both locally and globally.

Our team of dedicated and experienced staff have since been implementing the project in the communities of Southern Taraba. Our roundtable dialogue sessions with stakeholders has resulted in the formation of the Taraba Conflict Management Support Group (TCMSG) in Wukari, Takum and Ussa LGAs. The outcome and
testimonies so far received are deeply encouraging. Below are some heartwarming pictures from the activity.

Join us in promoting peace in Taraba State—because a safer, and more harmonious world begins with peace in our communities.
