1. Introduction

This report documents a violent attack that occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 27, 2026, in Naridon Community, Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack was reportedly carried out by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen and has so far claimed the lives of approximately thirty (30) people, including women and children, while causing widespread destruction of homes and businesses. 2. Incident Summary

The attackers reportedly struck between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., continuing their assault for approximately three hours until around 3:00 a.m.

During the attack, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately on sleeping residents.

By the time they withdrew, at least 30 people had been killed, including women and children. Community members believe the final death toll may increase as search efforts continue.

The attackers also set homes and businesses on fire. Reports indicate that:

• Two (2) houses were completely destroyed.
• Four (4) shops were razed.
• Many residents suffered severe psychological trauma.
• Community members spent the early morning recovering bodies, which were later taken to the morgue.

3. Eyewitness Accounts

Mr. Barnabas Musa

Mr. Barnabas Musa, a resident of Naridon Community, reported that distress calls began coming in between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., when the attack commenced.

According to him:

• The assault lasted nearly three hours.
• At least 30 people, including women and children, were killed.
• The attackers also burned homes and shops before fleeing.

Comrade Friday Ango

Comrade Friday Ango, another community member, described the attack as one of the worst the community has experienced.

He reported that:

• One family, identified only as Mr. Emma’s family, was almost completely wiped out.
• Approximately five of Mr. Emma’s children were killed during the attack.
• Community members were still searching houses and recovering bodies as more victims continued to be discovered.

4. Situation Update

As of the time of reporting:

• Approximately 30 people have been confirmed dead.
• Two (2) victims have already been buried.
• Four (4) injured persons are receiving medical treatment.
• Eight (8) of those killed were children.
• Twenty-two (22) of the deceased belonged to the same extended family—the Rana family.

Kauru Local Government Area, particularly Chawai Chiefdom, has experienced repeated attacks in recent years characterized by killings, kidnappings, and displacement.

Community leaders have repeatedly appealed to the Kaduna State Government and security agencies for increased protection due to the growing frequency of coordinated night-time attacks targeting predominantly farming communities.

7. Engage the Kaduna State Government, security agencies, traditional leaders, and religious leaders in addressing the underlying drivers of recurring violence across Southern Kaduna, particularly in Kauru, Kajuru, and Kachia LGAs.
